President-General
of the Nigeria Football and Other Sports Supporters Association, Rafiu
Ladipo, has been invited by the International Association of World
Sports Supporters to be part of its meeting in Beijing, China, this
week.
Ladipo is expected to deliver a paper on
the role of supporters in modern football. In his reaction, Ladipo said
the invitation was in recognition of the club’s relevance in world
sport.
He said, “In the past three decades,
Nigeria has become a force in football and other sports. The role of the
supporters club in the success of the Nigerian football teams in global
events and the Olympics cannot be pushed aside. It is therefore an
honour to be invited by the world body to be part of its deliberation in
China. On Tuesday and Wednesday, I will deliver a paper titled The role
of supporters in modern day sports development.
“This invitation further highlights the
efforts of the supporters’ club members, who sacrifice all they have to
ensure that Nigerian teams excel wherever they play.”
