Diverse or Divided?

Nigeria is a great & blessed land….we all say. A viable place for investment, rich in culture bla bla bla…and in all it makes us unique….the story and praise is endless. Check out our media hype on nationally celebrated days or on campaigns to attract investment, it's sometimes too beautiful for the country we wake to see daily.

One question that sticks so hard in my mind is: Is our diversity a blessing or a curse? Who really are we? Hausa, Yoruba, Ibo….or any of the over 250 ethnic groups in Nigeria? Are we becoming predominantly an English nation? Someone ones told me if I can’t speak my language then I am lost and I replied what benefit is my language when in another state within my country it makes me a stranger and the least favoured when an opportunity I am qualified for opens up?

Why will I fight for my brother that I am not even ready to love, share with or lead sincerely? What is North or South? A geographical direction or a people who must ‘god’ the Niger area? We must realize that the world doesn’t see us tribally but as a nation. One affects all.

Our diversity shouldn’t bring a fight for superiority but rather complement our supremacy as the world’s most populous black nation rich in human and natural resource. Inasmuch as I respect the beauty each tribes bring to plate, I believe we will find our voice as a nation and see change if we stand together irrespective of where we come from.

The trending mindsets (my people, other people overtaking us in our land, I must favour my people first etc) has enslaves us to unnecessary wars and underdevelopment. Any Nigerian performing below desired capacity should be a huge concern to us all. The biased mindsets cripple our ability to create sustainable results and produce trusted leadership.

No matter the point you make, it remains that UNITED we STAND and DIVIDED we FALL. Until we see A Great Nation together no political party can proffer any solution, we will remain victims of the systems we create. It may be hard but let love lead you, heal you and life you. We MUST unite and fight against any vice that destroys us as a nation. I believe in this nation, so come let’s build this nation for generations to come.
